When I homeschooled my children 20 (yikes!) years ago, it was nearly unheard of, there were no resources, and one was simply "left out" of the school world in any sense of the phrase. My son had attended high school for a few weeks, and his drama teacher saw great potential, so would come to the house and pick him up for rehearsals after school (she allowed him the lead in the school plays on several occasions and supported him for a summer theater scholarship at the local college, which he did get). What a great lady! In general, though, we were on our own -- the only curriculum was what we could come up with based on a list of state objectives and books from publishing companies that sold to schools. The world has changed. A conference for homeschoolers?! Wow!
