A Challenge For All Wives

My friend Aimee recently celebrated her 13th wedding Anniversary by posting 100 things she loves about her husband on her blog. It was very sweet. It reminded me of a group I started on Facebook titled, "I love my husband". This group was inspired by a t-shirt a good friend of mine had on one day with the same words on it. The t-shirt was inspired by the movie Fireproof. If you haven't seen it it is worth checking out. Anyway, I have the same t-shirt now and I decided to start the group for several reasons.

When my friend wore the t-shirt one day she was confronted by some people asking her "Really?" or making some general statement about their husband's ability to drive them nuts, etc. Don't you know people like this who have hardened their hearts towards the one person they stood up with and vowed to love for the rest of their lives? Or what about the couple that has forgotten they are bonded together through the love of God and that God is an active participant in their marriage? I think most of us have been there at one time or another, even if for just a brief moment.

So what are we to do? Life is busy. You have housework and laundry to do, kids to raise, bills to pay, and the list goes on and on. Sometimes you may only say a few words to your husband each evening before falling into bed exhausted. So here is the challenge. Show him how much he is loved each day. For some of us that may mean cooking his favorite dinner or sending him off for a day of golf guilt-free. Maybe you could make a list like my friend Aimee. Since writing is my thing, I've decided to post a little story about some of the times that WB has made me feel like the luckiest girl on the planet.

What are some ways you celebrate your husband and your marriage?

So true! I think it's so easy to lose sight of what we could have, if we focus on marriage the right way. Not many take it seriously enough, in my opinion.

Loved Fireproof! I think all couples, regardless of their relationship, should watch it. I've got the book, too, though haven't made it all the way through yet.

Very true post! I force myself to stay awake for an hour or so after my kids go to bed so we can talk or just watch a little news - as long as he feels like I'm making an effort to connect...

(While reading this post, I couldn't help thinking about that guy who was arrested for assaulting his wife, while wearing a t-shirt that said, "I love my wife.")

Janna I agree, not very many do.

OMG, Karen I hadn't heard that story about the man wearing the "I love my wife" shirt! That is crazy!

Finally! I haven't been able to get on your blog for some reason. Actually, a couple of blogs. I think it's my computer. Grrr...

Awesome idea about the t-shirts! I love my hubby and I'm not afraid to say it! LOL

Kara, when my hubby turned 50, all of the kids decided to make a list of their 50 favorite things about their daddy - he has 5 kids, so each kiddo did 10 - we video taped all of them reading them to him and it was precious. We started youngest to oldest and the kids from out of town taped theirsd and mailed it to him. SO, I decided to make my own list for him of the 50 things I love most about him. It was great! He was surprised at some of the things that I said that I loved most...it was very sweet and fun. It also gave me a moment to reflex on what a wonderful hubby I have and to appreciate him even more! I loved your post!

Great idea, Kara. It makes me so mad when I get in a husband-bashing group of women. I usually stay quiet, but do try to insert things that I love about my husband.

I think we get busy and tired and expect our spouse to make it all better, but they're busy and tired too. I try to pray and do something nice for my hubby when I'm getting the annoyed feelings. He always responds with love and then I'm not annoyed anymore. Magic!

Jessica I'm glad you got through! And I'm surprised by how many woman don't say it. It's sad.

Luain I love that idea. That is so sweet, I may have to borrow it!

Pat, I know it is so easy to get among woman who say negative things about their husbands, it great you let them know you think your husband is great:)

Jill I totally understand that. I get tired and hubby is tired and that is when it is easy to snap at each other. Love has a way of making things so much easier. That is great magic!

Great post.

My husband are going away overnight tomorrow. Our fist time away from the children overnight in nearly 14 years. (Well except to go to the hospital for another baby to be born, before we started having our home births.) I am so excited about 2 whole days with just my amazing husband. He is the best thing that ever happened to me!!!

Blessings,
Kimberly
